The Euston Estate encompasses an impressive expanse of woodland covering 1,500 acres. This includes the largest semi-ancient broadleaf woodland in East Anglia, which is meticulously managed with a focus on sustainability and wildlife conservation. Through carefully planned felling and controlled coppicing techniques, the woodland is nurtured to enhance both its biodiversity and productivity. This approach creates openings for light, allowing a diverse range of species to thrive harmoniously within the woodlands.

A significant portion of the woodland, spanning 540 acres, has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) by Natural England. This recognition highlights the ecological importance and exceptional qualities of this specific area, further emphasising the commitment to conservation and preservation on the Euston Estate.

In addition to the conservation efforts, the estate operates a firewood business from its office. This allows visitors and local residents to conveniently access high-quality logs for their heating needs. The firewood can be purchased and, to ensure customer satisfaction, is delivered free of charge locally to Euston, otherwise a small charge is made. This service not only provides a reliable source of firewood but also supports the sustainable management of the woodland on the estate.

Due to new Government regulations, the minimum purchase is 2 x cubic metres at a cost of £200.00.

(Orders are strictly in increments of 2 cubic metres).

 

All loads are made up of air-dried hardwood, felled on the Estate, comprising mostly ash, with some beech and birch.

Logs are mainly cut to between 9 to 10 inches or 230mm to 260 mm. Please note: our firewood has not been over a cleaning system, so each delivery will contain some smaller logs, shards, bark and chip, which can make excellent kindling. These shards can get in amongst gravel and other surface types, so it is best to place a tarpaulin down before delivery.

We are unable to offer a stacking or throwing off service and we prefer to deliver our firewood on dry days to ensure the quality of our product. Delivery charges are based on the distance and time taken from the Euston Sawmill. Once the order has been placed online, the Estate Office will make contact within five working days to arrange a suitable date for your wood delivery.
